open forum discussions focus on Holocaust
Many gay Holocaust survivors were afraid, ashamed and unwilling to share their stories. Dr. Carson Phillips is the assistant director at the Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre and an internationally recognized expert on the Holocaust. Dr. Phillips will shed light on these victims of the Holocaust, using diary and testimony excerpts from gay survivors. This lecture is part of Friday night services. How do Catholic teenagers inherit the memory of the Holocaust and give voice to one of humanity darkest times? In July 2012, five employees and 32 high school students of the York Catholic District School Board set out to explore this question. Travelling to sites in both Germany and Poland, participants were immersed in the historical narratives of the Holocaust. Attendees will experience an open format event where young voices will rescue the voices of those who can no longer speak. More than 40 years after the Holocaust, Esther Krinitz told her story of survival through a series of 36 collage and embroidery panels.
