Toshao Paul Chekema yesterday received on behalf of the villagers of Masakenari a cheque valued $2,000,000 from the Government of Guyana. The money represents a commitment made by President Bharrat Jagdeo towards the village during the National Toshao Conference held in late 2010.This fund will be used to upgrade the existing water distribution system in the village.Masakenari would have benefited already from a tractor and trailer along with an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), these were all commitments that were made by the President to that community, as part of the administration’s drive to improve the standard of living for Amerindians.The Toshao, Paul Chekema, expressed gratitude to the Regional Administration and the President for all the support and efforts made towards his community.Regional Executive Officer (REO) of Region 9 Ronald Harsawack told the Toshao and team that the Administration has always valued the contribution of Amerindians and has now created a playing field which will boost the community even more.He further stated that these interventions by the President are replicated throughout the region as well as other hinterland areas, and assured the Toshao of continued support.Masakenari, a Wai Wai community, is a remote village located in the Deep South of the Rupununi,Deion Jones Falcons Jersey, it is home to 280 persons.
