According to reports, after speaking to the Police, the couple was sent home to resolve their differences, but the argument got worse.Kaieteur News understands that, after returning home with his wife, Lawlist began beating his wife before chopping her about the body and then tying her up.While this was going on, the couple’s two young children became afraid and fled the house to seek assistance. Sensing that help would be coming soon, Lawlist set fire to the house with his wife’s body inside, and fled the scene. However, he was subsequently apprehended clad only in his underwear.He claimed to have ingested poison, and was taken to the Bartica Hospital, where the contents of his stomach were pumped out.Residents reported seeing smoke at around 14:30 hours, and this has led many to believe that Cynthia’s attempt to leave Lawlist triggered his anger and resulted in his violent actions. The house was completely razed, and the onset of night forced members of the Police Force to abandon their search for Cynthia’s body.This is the second domestic violence atrocity in the vicinity of Bartica this month. Recently, Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, lashed out at Police officers who are unsupportive of women who are abused.The minister had observed that there was the reluctance on the part of the Police to be aggressively involved in taking and following up on complaints of domestic violence.
