Their findings were presented at the Guyana Medical Scientific Conference on Sunday.The study concluded that chronic fatigue due to long working hours and stressful cases, and lack of equipment and gear were among the main reasons why doctors suffer from stress. Junior doctors (with respect to age and designation) are more stressed than their seniors.For stress relief, the doctors would exercise, sleep, watch TV and hang out with their friends, it was found.The researchers found that 76 percent of the doctors were highly stressed, and that medical interns were the most stressed doctors.Previous studies have shown stress levels of doctors generally exceed those of the general population, but there was never any specific investigation on how doctors at the GPHC were affected.The study found that more married doctors had normal levels of stress, while single doctors were more severely stressed out.From the study it was established that a higher proportion of males have normal stress levels, as opposed to their female counterparts, who recorded severe stress levels.The Intensive Care Unit had the highest number of doctors with normal stress levels; while the Ear,Jerseys NFL Cheap, Nose and Throat Department had the highest proportion of severely stressed doctors, followed by the Accident and Emergency and the Paediatric Departments.The department with the most stressed doctors was the Medical Outpatient Department.
