The police are in the process of preparing a file to send to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice after a Coverden, East Bank Demerara (EBD) woman was killed in an accident Saturday night.The Toyota HiluxThe accident, which occurred on the Coverden Public Road, involved two vehicles, a Toyota Hilux bearing registration number GJJ 6458 and a Toyota Fielder wagon.The dead woman, Ann Mohamed, 34,Chad Williams Jersey, of Coverden had just left work and was standing on the Public Road when she was struck down by the Toyota Hilux and dragged a distance away from the point of impact.The two vehicles ended up in a nearby trench.According to information received, the driver of the Hilux, Colin Lovell, had just left his home and was heading to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport where he works when the driver of the Toyota Fielder wagon struck him (Lovell) from behind.This caused 62-year-old Lovell to lose control of his vehicle and he ended up hitting the mother of two before he and the other driver ended up in a nearby trench.The damages on the two vehicles would tell that Lovell was indeed struck from behind since only the back (from where he was struck) and side (the side that ended up in the trench) of his motor vehicle was damaged while the other vehicle was badly damaged.Both drivers were taken into custody Saturday night. They were released on bail yesterday.Lovell’s daughter, Necketta, said that her father struck and killed Mohamed only after the other driver struck him from behind. She said that there was nothing her father could have done to prevent this tragedy.Toyota Fielder wagon“Everyone knows my father drives like a turtle. It was the other driver who hit him from behind that caused him (Lovell) to hit the woman. (The second driver) was speeding,” the younger Lovell said.The woman claimed that the police did not do a thorough investigation. In fact, she claimed that the police showed up at the scene a while later and hardly questioned people.She also lashed out at the police for treating her father harshly. “They had him in the lockups standing the entire night and his feet were swollen. He had to go to the Diamond Hospital.”Meanwhile, a police source told this newspaper that the matter is currently being investigated. “You are in the wrong if you hit someone from behind, but how the driver who was at the front killed someone then that’s a different story.”The rank said that charges will be laid based on the statements given by both drivers and eyewitnesses account.
