Locals have good showing at provs
The U18 Storm hit the post Monday morning in a 0 0 draw against Swift Current United that kept them out of the final provincial. They finished tied for second place with Yorkton United, but Yorkton advanced thanks to their win over the Storm in Saturday's opener.
The U16 boys saw their hopes dashed in the semifinal loss to Saskatoon's Aurora Celtics. The teams were tied 2 2, but the Celtics prevailed 5 4 in a penalty shootout. The Storm's final shot hit the crossbar.
The under 16 Storm girls lost their three games, but won the Fair Play Award Pandora Bracelet for their division and saw goalkeeper Stacee Greensides named the most valuable player in the under 16 girls competition.
The U18 Storm Cheap Louis Vuitton Handbags Australia came into the tournament with a provincial indoor title to their credit, but precious little preparation time.
Their loss to Yorkton was their first game of the outdoor season. Due to conflicts with other spots, coach Nile Minovitch said he rarely had more eight players at a given practice. To top it all off it was grad weekend for a number of the Storm players.
Understandably, the Storm started the tournament slowly.
"We faltered for about 10 minutes. The bad part was that we were down 2 0 after about five minutes of the game and for the last 55 minutes or so we controlled the ball perfectly, we did everything we needed to do, but we couldn't put it in the back of the net," said Minovitch of their loss to Yorkton.
The Storm rallied with four second half goals to beat Regina Unidad 4 0 Saturday night. Albert Woodroffe Brown scored twice, while Spencer Krawczyk and Kale Andrews also scored.
"Once they get that breakthrough, these kids can be devastating. It's ego thing, it's a confidence thing, whatever it is, once they break that line, they're on fire," said Minovitch.
Andrew and Krawczyk scored in a 2 0 win over Regina UCT, but in a must win Monday morning, the Storm couldn't score.
After allowing two goals in the first five minutes of the tournament, James Taylor Booth didn't allow another goal the rest of the tournament, but it wasn't Nike Roshe Run Australia enough.
The U16 Storm boys lost twice Saturday, but managed to advance to the semifinals.
They lost 1 0 to Saskatoon's Aurora Celtics in the morning and then lost 3 1 to league rivals the UCT Mustangs from Regina despite a superb free kick goal from Nicholas Marotta.
Marotta and Bryton Slater   who were dangerous all weekend   scored in regulation in the semifinal loss to Aurora Celtics. It took seven shoots each, but Celtics prevailed 5 4 in the shootout.
The Storm led the shootout 3 2 and were a goal or a save away from the final, but Celtics made three straight penalties and the Storm's decisive Tiffany Rings Sydney attempt hit the crossbar.
"We've got a young team. We're probably one of the youngest, if not the youngest, team (at provincials). We have four 1997 born players, the balance are 1998s and we even have two 1999s who are playing up," said U16 Storm coach Peter Marotta. "By no means were we out classed though."

In their final group game they tied Eastside 2 2 in a battle for the semifinal spot, but Excelsior advanced thanks to their superior goal differential. "Basically the girls ran out of gas. We were basically running Louboutin Pigalle Sizing on one sub most of the weekend," said Excelsior coach Jason Jones. "In the semifinal we didn't get going the way we wanted to. We couldn't play the way we wanted to play."
While they didn't have the jump they needed to play the possession game they were striving for, Jones was happy with the performance from his team.
"There were a lot of good things from a lot of players this weekend," said Jones. "I told them that I was proud of them. They conducted themselves with class and it gives us something really positive to build off of with this age group."
The U16 girls lost Nike Free Store 1 0 to the Valley Soccer Association Rovers and 2 0 to Saskatoon's Lakeland Avengers. Kate Scidmore scored in a 2 1 loss to Regina Unidad who scored late to earn the win. Greensides was one of her team's game MVPs in each game and was the tournament MVP for her age division.
