| He passed away one day shy of his 76th birthday but has left a legacy that will forever be etched in Guyana’s history, say those who worked with him.Gladstone Vernon Fausette, who had held a number of outstanding public positions died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation on Sunday. He had a few days earlier undergone an operation at the medical facility which was expected to address a severe pain in his side.Dead: Gladstone FausetteAccording to the man’s daughter, Lorna Fausette, it was only a few weeks prior that her father, who was in a fairly healthy condition, had started complaining of the pain in his side. He subsequently received medical attention and according to Lorna “one thing led to another and the next thing we knew is that he had to do this operation.”The medical procedure was successful undertaken last week Thursday but Fausette remained hospitalised at the Public Hospital. He leaves to mourn five children , 11 grandchildren and his wife of 54 years, Beulah Fausette.According to Lorna, it is expected that her father, who served with distinction for many years at the Georgetown Municipality, will be laid to rest on Monday.Reflecting on a municipal career which spanned a few decades, City Mayor, Hamilton Green, revealed that Fausette was a highly respected citizen who was very effective and performed with excellence in every position he held at the municipality.According to Green, so outstanding was Fausette’s work that it was recently decided at the level of Council that the municipality should retain his services to assist the city entity with its ongoing restructuring process.“He was an ideal personality to emulate,” said Clerk of Markets, Schulder Griffith last evening. Griffith revealed that he worked well with Fausette, adding that “he was my mentor. However, two years later he was appointed as Town Clerk at the Georgetown municipality, where according to Deputy Mayor Robert Williams, he performed exceptionally. |
