| Two brothers from the West Coast Demerara village of Cornelia Ida were shot several times by bandits who invaded their home last night.Up to press time, Premanandat Khemlall, 22, had received treatment for two gunshot wounds to his left thigh and arm, while his older brother 24-year-old Bridgemohan, an employee of Medicare Pharmacy was still engaging the undivided attention of doctors for wounds he sustained to his right side chest and right leg.Bridgemohan was still conscious and his condition is listed as serious.Their mother, Parbattie, was also assaulted by the bandits and she was treated at the West Demerara Regional Hospital and sent away.Recounting his ordeal, Premanandat Khemlall,Man Utd Away Kit 2018/19, who works at Farfan and Mendes in the city, said that he was working on his computer, shortly after 21:00 hours, when he heard his mother and brother screaming.At the time only the three persons were at home.Premanandat Khemlall said that a gunshot went off but from his vantage point he could not see what was transpiring.However he was certain that his mother and brother, who were outside of the single-flat house, were being attacked by bandits.Nevertheless, he approached the door but two more gunshots went off, this time the bullets struck him to his arm and leg.He said that he was unaware that he had been shot since he was feeling no pain initially.“I made a move to get a cutlass but I couldn’t make it. Then the pain started to kick in especially in the leg, because the bullet is still inside,” the young man recalled.The little resistance he had left had disappeared, although he still was not absolutely sure what was taking place.“Dem guys got guns, I barely could walk, plus whey I going with a cutlass? Somehow I managed to get over the fence and went to my neighbour and just fell to the chair,” Premanandat Khemlall said.Meanwhile, the bandits continued to assault his brother and mother.Khemlall said that he continued to hear screaming from his brother and mother intermingled with gunshots. He could not say for sure if the bandits had managed to cart off anything although he believes they did.He estimated that the bandits fired about eight to 10 more shots during the ordeal which lasted about 10 minutes.When it was over, the family was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital from where Khemlall and his brother were transferred to the city.He said that the police were informed and they arrived within five minutes but by then the bandits had vanished. |
